Dreamland
Out of the orb of sleep I rise. - I've counted
this dream before. Some radiant sun flares,
an onion rind drops from greasy fingers,
Cleaning hands. A leaf of concern flies
Between us. This loving cup cradled, somewhere
Satellites circle, boys in bars like living moons,
Caught in her radiant bean.
Whispered come-ons thrown aside until it's time
For redemption. There is a certain celibacy
In solitude – and I've flipped through her pages
Barely enough. I've wanted an indelible impression
-nearly longed for it-
But we have abandoned the rules of romance,
Skipped the courting ritual
an onion rind drops from greasy fingers,
Cleaning hands. A leaf of concern flies
Between us. This loving cup cradled, somewhere
Satellites circle, boys in bars like living moons,
Caught in her radiant bean.
Whispered come-ons thrown aside until it's time
For redemption. There is a certain celibacy
In solitude – and I've flipped through her pages
Barely enough. I've wanted an indelible impression
-nearly longed for it-
But we have abandoned the rules of romance,
Skipped the courting ritual
In fact, we've grown too cynical, the situation
spitting us out
And if I hesitate to let you
And if I hesitate to let you
In, don't think it's because I don't want you
Inside. In my sleep, I can never find the door.
