Lastleaf
Last leaf signals autumn's end
Hungry like neon nights or a lover in your past?
September rain, rooftops stirred and drumming
Moon larking, disturbed by autumn blast.
Mystic enclaves link wife's tale to daughters dance,
Deepened in waning light, the entangled role.
Nervous nights prevail; Scars mark an endless fight,
tattered and lonely is a bachelors soul.
These winds, full of lust, wither, and false pretense.
Idol fools await another midnight moon-crossing
Unsheltered briefly, drained of best intent,
Weaker hearts turned and tossing. Summer abated,
No watchmen left to attend.
Glory modified for skeptics dreams.
Side-street boys unknown to ascend
In fickle hearts, nothing's as it seems.
Emotions dumfoundered, I grow colder
At seasons turn. Vagabond souls
Lost when last leaf is burnt.
